The Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH)’s Dr. Robert Greenlee presented Connect for Cancer Prevention site perspectives and chaired presentations on planned study activities for the upcoming year and participant advisory board perspectives.

Dr. Greenlee joined Tammy Ellis, Roxy Eibergen, Liz Armagost, and one of Marshfield’s participant advisory board members, Peggy Buchda, at the Annual Meeting in Rockville MD, Sept 18-20. Peggy Buchda presented Marshfield’s site level engagement highlights including her WDLB radio interview https://cwbradio.com/news/?id=43253Tammy Ellis co-chaired the Study Manager breakout session. Marshfield attended with 9 other Connect for Cancer Prevention health care organizations from across the county with the aims to recruit over 200,000 people aged 30-70 with no history of cancer.

30 dedicated team members in the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute support the Connect for Cancer Prevention Study.

The Connect for Cancer Prevention Study wants to better understand the causes of cancer and how to prevent it. Marshfield Clinic Health System is one of ten health care systems throughout the country to partner with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), for Connect. The study will include 200,000 adults who:

  • Get their health care from a partner health care system,
  • Are between 30 and 70 years old at enrollment, and
  • Have never had cancer. People who have or once had non-melanoma skin cancer, or a condition that raises the risk of getting cancer (such as DCIS, or stage 0 breast cancer), can still join.

Participants will be asked to answer online health surveys, donate samples of blood, urine, and saliva, and share access to their electronic health records. This information will help researchers study the health and behavior patterns that may affect cancer risk. It takes time to understand the causes of cancer, so Connect will go on for many years. The longer you participate, the more we may learn.
