CCEPH Director Quoted in National News Article on COVID-19 Vaccine Effects on the Pandemic (December 2020)
CCEPH Director, Edward Belongia, M.D., was quoted in an article by the Associated Press that urges people not to assume that the vaccine will be a miracle cure for the COVID-19 Pandemic, but to be patient while the medical community assess what impact the vaccine will have. 

CCEPH Researcher Receives an Award from Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation Donors (November 2020)
CCEPH postdoctoral fellow, Cody Goessl, Ph.D., A.T.C. was one of the recipients of a funding award from the MCHS Foundation donors for a study that will look at the correlation between COVID-19 and several key general health markers. CCEPH research scientist, Jeffrey VanWormer, Ph.D., will co-investigate on the study.

CCEPH Researchers are Looking Household Transmission Rates for COVID-19 (November 2020)
CCEPH Scientist, Huong McLean, PhD, MPH was the principal investigator of a study looking at how COVID-19 is being transmitted from person to person in households.  It was found that over half of the individuals exposed to the virus by a family member who lives with them will also contract the virus.

CCEPH Scientists, Huong McLean, PhD, MPH and Edward Belongia, MD are working on a new study to look at how the COVID-19 Pandemic has affected people in rural communities.

CCEPH Scientist Studying Whether Taking Statins Could Prevent Dementia (October 2020)
Jeffrey VanWormer, Ph.D., research scientist from the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health (CCEPH), is the site investigator in a study/trial that looks at how statin medications could possibly prevent the onset of dementia in adults aged 75 and older.

Pediatric Infection Disease Physician Joins CCEPH Vaccine Research Team (September 2020)
Thomas Boyce M.D., M.P.H., has joined MCHS with a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics and CCEPH. He will split his time between clinical care and vaccine research with the CCEPH team.

CCEPH Scientist Receives UW ICTR award to research Sjogren's Syndrome's and Menopause (September 2020)
CCEPH Scientist, Jeffrey VanWormer, Ph.D., received the UW-Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) award to fund his research on Sjogren's Syndrome and its connection to menopause.

CCEPH Scientists to Study Household Transmission of COVID-19 (August 2020)
CCEPH Scientist, Huong McLean, Ph.D., to head a study that looks at transmission of COVID-19 spread throughout households.  This study will be in collaboration with Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CCEPH Scientists Publish an Article Looking at a Rare Genetic Disorder in the Journal of Pediatric Obesity (August 2020)
CCEPH Scientist, Jeremy Pomeroy Ph.D., headed a study on Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS), a rare genetic disorder that can cause obesity and other health concerns in children who are born with the disorder. The study was made possible by using the Research Institute's Clinical Registry for Investigating BBS (CRIBBS).

CCEPH Scientist, Robert Greenlee Ph.D., M.P.H. will serve two terms as the chair of the Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN) Board of Governors starting in 2021.

CCEPH Epidemiologist Presents at the 2020 Virtual ACVR Conference (June 2020)
CCEPH Epidemiologist, Kayla Hanson M.P.H., presented at the Annual Conference on Vaccinology Research (ACVR) on findings of two influenza vaccine effectiveness studies. This annual conference was held virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic.

CCEPH Researchers Show that Flu Vaccine Effectiveness is Encouraging During 2019-20 Severe Flu Season (February 2020)
Marshfield Clinic Health System and four other U.S. sites participated in the mid-season estimates of flu vaccine effectiveness in the severe 2019-20 season.  CCEPH Director, Edward Belongia M.D., was the principal investigator for the study that showed encouraging numbers for vaccine effectiveness.

CCEPH Researchers Conduct a Multi-Site Obesity Study (February 2020)
Jeffrey VanWormer, Ph.D., Scientist, from the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health (CCEPH) engaged in a multi-site obesity research study. Rural Engagement in Primary Care for Optimizing Weight Reduction (RE-POWER) compared three obesity treatment models in Primary Care practices in the Rural Midwest.
